Mechanical Engineering
During the Mechanical Engineering course, you will learn about the issues related to the day-to-day operation, management and diagnosis of equipment typically used in the marine engine room. It gives our graduates a variety of job opportunities, ranging from the typical career path as a ship’s crew member to employment in repair and maintenance companies and also starting their own business.
During the course, the students acquire competence in operation and maintenance of marine power plants. After completion of the required internship, these qualifications shall be endorsed with an Engineer Officer of the Watch certificate issued by the relevant maritime administration, which allows the holder to work on board as a ship’s engineer officer.
Duration of studies:
The program lasts for 4 years (8 semesters, including one dedicated to maritime internships). The entire mechanical engineering curriculum is delivered in English.
Curriculum
The program fully complies with STCW (The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers). It offers an excellent opportunity to combine studies towards a Bachelor’s degree with intensive language learning. This unique program enables students to embark on an international maritime career immediately after graduation.
The Mechanical Engineering program, taught in English, focuses on the specialization of Marine Power Plant Operations.
Marine Power Plant Operations
During the Mechanical Engineering course, students will learn about the day-to-day operation, management, and diagnosis of equipment typically used in marine engine rooms. This equips graduates with a variety of job opportunities, from traditional roles as crew members on ships to employment in repair and maintenance companies, and even starting their own businesses. After completing the required internship, these qualifications will be endorsed with the Engineer Officer of the Watch certificate issued by the relevant maritime administration, allowing the holder to work on board as a ship’s engineer officer.
Throughout their studies, students gain knowledge in preparing, managing, and conducting overhauls of power equipment, industrial refrigeration systems, and recycling plants. They are trained in teamwork principles, standards for technical service operations, and the regulations set by classification societies and technical inspection bodies.
Graduate profile:
Graduates of this program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Engineering. Upon obtaining the Engineer Officer of the Watch license, graduates can work as officers in the engineering department of marine vessels or be employed in repair shipyards and maintenance departments of various enterprises, such as electrical power plants, paper mills, steelworks, ports, and sewage treatment facilities. Employment opportunities also extend to renewable energy sectors, both onshore and offshore, as well as in electrical equipment production plants and power generation facilities.
Why is it worth it?
Regardless of advancements in autonomous transport systems, energy equipment automation, or the implementation of AI-based technologies, the need to maintain the technical condition of these facilities will persist. In short, someone must know how to repair this equipment. The competencies acquired during the studies can be used in various areas of the economy, from the broadly defined maritime economy, through the energy sector to the mining industry, etc. Personal and professional development, changes in the economic climate and other external factors lead to career development and may result in changing the workplace, but the knowledge and skills acquired during your studies will continue to be used and developed.
Employment opportunities:
Officers and engineers in the marine engineering departments of vessels.
Employees in repair shipyards and maintenance departments of various enterprises.
Specialists in renewable energy sectors, including onshore and offshore wind farms.
Professionals in electrical power generation, transfer, and distribution facilities.
Technicians in manufacturing plants for electrical devices and power equipment.
